Child + Family

Family sessions are usually in the mornings before 10am, or right before dusk at 5-7pm in the spring/summer and 3-5 in the fall/winter. Sessions can be at your home, or on-location at beautiful parks. Urban sessions are very popular as well. We can head to downtown or rural/country areas too. Family sessions are usually an hour long. Up to 5 people can be photographed at a family session, additional people will be added for a fee.

How to prepare for a successful photography session:

  • Schedule your photo session on a day that you or your children will be relaxed and well rested. Find a time that will work well with naps. Babies and toddlers are often at their best right after a nap.
  • Have everyone eat a light snack before the shoot.
  • Clothing should be a solid color except white or (all) black, without writing or branding. Matching will date your photos. Choose complimentary colors and have solids and patterns of the same color family. We can touch up on what to wear during our phone style consultation. There are also plenty of visual examples from our What to Wear guides here.
  • Make-up and jewelry are fine, though lots of jewelry can be distracting. But if in doubt just bring it and we can decide when we are shooting.
  • Bring the babies and children’s favorite toys to help distract them if they should become fussy.
  • Moms and Dads are enormously helpful after I have established a rapport to get the children to smile. I’ll let you know if I need help straightening up a shirt, or fixing any flyaway hair, or talking about silly things with your child to bring out their best expressions.
